The Benefits of Starting a Business in Your 20s

Graduation Season is upon us. Many University Graduates will now be asking themselves what the next step is. Graduation is both an exciting and scary time, at once. Some students may be considering starting their own business but don’t quite know where to start.

Student Haus was started by University graduates and here is a list of some of the benefits of starting a business in your 20s.

Energy

You are young. You have energy. You can work 12 hour days, 6 days a week if needs be to pursue your dreams.

Naivety

Many students will think this is a disadvantage when starting their own business. We think this can be one of the biggest advantages you have when you are in your 20s starting out in your career. You don’t know what you don’t know and you therefore have less “battle bruises” to hold you back from trying new things which can lead to innovation.

No Financial Commitments and little Responsibilities

When you are in your 20s and you have just graduated chances are you do not have children or a mortgage to pay for. Additionally, chances are you own very little and you therefore have very little to loose anyways. Being a student or University graduate can be one of the best times to start a business. Unless your parents are very well off, you haven’t yet gotten accustomed to a plush lifestyle as most people will in their 30s once they have worked for a few years and are starting to earn a decent salary.

Time

You may be money poor but most likely time rich. You can achieve many things with time and an inner drive that money alone cannot achieve. Use your time in your 20s wisely and with a purpose and you will reap the rewards later down the line. You also have the advantage that if the business does not go as planned or you later on decide that having your own business is not for you after all, you still have plenty of time to do something else. Starting again can be a lot harder once you are older and you have more to loose.

Transferrable Skills

Starting your own business can teach you some of the best transferrable skills. Most likely you will learn about marketing, strategy, budgeting, customer service and retention skills and many more. Most importantly you learn to build something from scratch and that knowledge can applied to any industry which in return gives you a sense of freedom.
